The VMG Pro Cycling Team

The professional cycling program of VMG Racing is young, barely 2 years old, yet already VMG has made a name for itself and gained the respect of the professional cycling community. 2005 was the inaugural year for both VMG and its first - Elite Amateur - Team. The year ended on a high note when application for UCI status for the company's new developmental team was approved.

2006 proved to be a tremendous success. VMG's U23 team grew in strength, speed, and team tactics as the year progress and put impressive results on the board, including Best Young Rider at the Nature Valley Classic and podium finishes at the US U23 National Criterium Championships.

VMG Racing has now entered into a creative joint partnership with USA Cycling, the national governing body for cycling in the US. VMG and USA Cycling have brought together an exciting roster of talented and driven young riders. VMG continues its focus on young athletes and is now poised to increase its mark on developmental cycling in 2007.

Director Sportif

To lead VMG's developmental racing efforts, former world-class cyclist and 2002 professional road champion Chann McRae has been named team director for 2007. The former UCI Pro Tour-level rider who lists Mapei, the U.S. Postal Service Professional Cycling Team and the Mercury Cycling Team as his former employers, will direct the next generation of young cyclists as they pursue their elite-level aspirations. McRae, 35, is a native of Austin, Texas and has represented the United States in 11 UCI World Championships including the 1999 edition in Verona, Italy where he placed fifth for the United States.

The former Tour de France veteran and Ironman Triathlon competitor will assume the traditional duties of team director for VMG Racing immediately.

“It’s an awesome opportunity to work with a group of younger riders that all share the same goals that I had when I was at that stage of my career,” said McRae. “I’m still young myself, so I can relate to all the riders in the program.”
